Released WWE Writer Chris DeJoseph Didn’t Want To Give His Life To One Person’s ‘Unpredictable Whims’
Chris DeJoseph realized that he wasn’t a good fit for WWE’s unpredictable creative structure after ten years away from the company.
On May 30, 2020, it was reported that lead WWE SmackDown writer, Chris DeJoseph had been let go by WWE. Multiple reports suggested that Chris had recently been promoted by the company and this was a sudden move based on Chris’ behavior during a recent creative meeting.
This was not DeJoseph’s first stint in WWE. He was part of the writing team in the mid-2000s and appeared on camera as Big Dick Johnson, a male stripper who was comically used in sketches with Vince McMahon and D-Generation X.
After his first run with WWE, DeJoseph would go on to be an executive producer of the Lucha Underground series on El Rey Network and was briefly a part of the team at Major League Wrestling before leaving them in December to return to WWE.
DeJoseph broke his silence regarding his WWE release in a tweet on June 13. Without naming any names, DeJoseph elaborated that he had no interest in giving his life away to the unpredictable whims of one person, before wishing Bruce Prichard the best of luck and saying that he believes in the vision of the newly-appointed Executive Director of both Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.
After ten years away wasn’t really into giving my life to the unpredictable whims of one person. But I believe in @bruceprichard and his vision.

Prichard recently took over the Monday Night Raw position from Paul Heyman and WWE will be consolidating the writing teams for both Raw and SmackDown.
