Report: Ian Heinisch vs. Gerald Meerschaert Back On For UFC 250

Ian Heinisch was pulled from UFC 250 yesterday after one of his cornermen allegedly tested positive for the coronavirus. However, another test was conducted for the cornerman and that test came out negative, allowing Heinisch to fight at UFC 250.

MMA Fighting first reported the news, while also reporting that Anthony Ivy, who was set to be Heinisch’s replacement, will receive a future opportunity to fight for the UFC.

Heinisch (13-3-0) enters the contest riding a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the duo of Derek Brunson and Omari Akhmedov. Heinisch hasn’t picked up a victory in about a year, with that last win coming over Antonio Carlos Jr. at UFC Fight Night Rochester. Heinisch also competed on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contenders Series Episode 15, defeating Justin Sumter by second round knockout.

Meerschaert (31-12-0) has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Trevin Giles and Deron Winn. Meerschaert has seen his last four fights go into the third round, with two of those four bouts going the distance. Meerschaert has picked up thirty one wins as a professional MMA fighter and twenty three of them came by way of submission.

UFC 250 takes place on Saturday, June 6 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
