Report: Nigel McGuinness Recently Furloughed By WWE

A new update on the WWE status of Nigel McGuinness has surfaced.

Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, Nigel McGuinness was the lead color commentator on both NXT and NXT UK, ever since the outbreak, he has not been seen on television and now the reason has been reported.

According to a new report by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Nigel McGuinness was a part of the recent furloughs made by WWE in the name of cost-effectiveness.

Nigel McGuinness started with WWE in 2017, when he called the inaugural WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament alongside Michael Cole. He would later be moved to NXT as a replacement for Corey Graves. He would also do commentary work on 205 Live and NXT UK.

Nigel joins names such as Shane Helms, Kurt Angle, and Gerald Brisco as WWE staff that have been furloughed following the COVID-19 pandemic.

While nothing is certain, those furloughed, such as Shane Helms, have remarked that they are hopeful they will return to their jobs in WWE soon.

Kurt Angle recently returned to WWE television on the May 27 episode of WWE NXT where he served as a special guest referee during the Cage Fight between Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle.
