Report: Journey Newson’s UFC 247 Win Overturned To No Contest Due To Failed Drug Test
However, it appears that the victory is no more because a report from ESPN is stating that the win has been overturned to a no contest by the Texas Department Of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).
Jason House, who is Newson’s manager, has told ESPN that the reason for the result change was that Newson tested positive for marijuana.
There has been no official statement yet from Newson or the TLDR as to the failed drug test, it is also unknown if the drug test was conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) or the TLDR, which could affect what kind of potential punishment the fighter gets.
That bout was Newson’s second with the UFC, as his first bout with the promotion was a unanimous decision loss to Davi Ramos at UFC Fight Night Minneapolis.
This would be Newson’s first failed drug test while in the UFC, which could lead to a one year suspension and a potential fine.
