Olivier Aubin-Mercier Says PFL Season 3 Prize Money Would Surpass UFC Earnings

Former UFC fighter Olivier Aubin-Mercier is going to be competing at lightweight in the third season of the Professional Fighters League (PFL).

Aubin-Mercier competed a total of twelve times in the UFC, but says winning the $1 million in PFL Season 3 would surpass his total earnings during that time in the UFC.

“I have two motivations: I have the million dollars – that’s really nice, it’s a game-changer,” Aubin-Mercier said to MMA Junkie. “The sweet U.S. (dollars) – it’s more money than I’ve made from all my fights in the UFC, so that’s a pretty big deal. Then the other motivation is to be in the final. This year, they did the poster for the fights, like the artistic poster for each fighter in the final, and I really, really liked it last year. I would like that for me.”

The fighter did earn a 7-5-0 record when competing in the UFC and left the promotion on a three fight losing streak.

Another aspect of the PFL that Aubin-Mercier needs to watch out for is competing twice in the same night when the playoffs come around, but that is a challenge the fighter is looking forward to.

“I think it’s going to be a big challenge to fight twice in one night,” Aubin-Mercier said. “I’m ready to do it. It’s always interesting for an athlete to do something different. It’s really raw. It’s kind of old-school MMA with the new-school mixed in, too. I could fight five times in six months – that’s really interesting.”

There is no word yet on when the third season of the PFL will begin, but it is expected to start within the next few months.
