Jairzinho Rozenstruik Scores Last Second KO In UFC Fight Night Washington DC Main Event

Alistair Overeem was dominating for four and a half rounds of a lackluster UFC Fight Night Washington DC main event against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, but then the heavyweight prospect threw a right and Overeem went down in a heap. Rozenstruik not only knocked out Overeem with four seconds to go in their main event bout, but also did some severe damage to the upper lip of Overeem.

Fightful provided live coverage of the whole show, but here are the highlights from the final round of the main event between Rozenstruik and Overeem:

Round Five: The round begins with Rozenstruik taking some swings at Overeem, Overeem goes for a takedown and Rozenstruik attacks him with a high kick. Overeem responds and he nails Rozenstruik with a pair of overhand lefts, Overeem eats an elbow strike as he clinches with Rozenstruik. The fighters separate and Overeem attacks Rozenstruik with leg kicks, Overeem grabs Rozenstruik and gets him against the cage wall. Overeem pulls guard and Rozenstruik gets right back up, Rozenstruik backs up Overeem while swinging away at him. Rozenstruik goes for a flying knee strike and Overeem blocks it, Rozenstruik drops Overeem with a massive right and the referee jumps in.

Other notable bouts on the card saw #9 Marina Rodriguez fight #10 Cynthia Calvillo to a majority draw (29-28, 28-28, 28-28), #5 Aspen Ladd def. #7 Yana Kunitskaya by TKO via strikes (0:33, R3), #9 Cody Stamann fight #13 Song Yadong to a majority draw (29-27, 28-28, 28-28) and #10 Rob Font def. Ricky Simon by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

The preliminary card saw some history made as Bryce Mitchell defeated Matt Sayles by first round submission via a twister, which was only the second twister finish in the history of the UFC.

Up next for the UFC is UFC 245 on Saturday, December 14 and three title fights will close out the pay-per-view calendar for the UFC in 2019 and Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of that event.
