Report: Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens II Set For UFC Fight Night Boston
A featherweight division rematch has been added to UFC Fight Night Boston according to ESPN as #7 Yair Rodriguez is going to be in action against #8 Jeremy Stephens. The duo first met earlier this month at UFC Fight Night Mexico City, but the bout went end in a no contest after Rodriguez had accidentally poked Stephens in the eye just a few seconds into the first round. The disastrous fight result would cause Rodriguez and Stephens to get into a brief scuffle at the hotel after the bout had ended.
Rodriguez (11-2-0-1NC) has won seven of nine under the UFC banner, with notable wins coming against Dan Hooker, Andre Fili, BJ Penn and Chan Sung Jung. Rodriguez has suffered a single defeat in UFC competition and that came against former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 211. Rodriguez has competed thirteen times as a professional MMA fighter and just five of those bouts went the distance.
Stephens (28-16-0-1NC) enters the contest having lost two of his last three fights, dropping those pair of bouts to the duo of Zabit Magomedsharipov and Jose Aldo. Stephens has competed at both lightweight and featherweight in the UFC, earning an overall record of 14-15-0-1NC in the promotion. Stephens has suffered sixteen losses as a professional MMA fighter and eleven of them have come by way of decision.
UFC Fight Night Boston takes place on Friday, October 18 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts with Dominick Reyes and Chris Weidman headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN.
