Report: Istela Nunes Pulled From UFC Mexico City Due To Drug Test Failure

Istela Nunes is supposed to be fighting Angela Hill next month at UFC Fight Night Mexico City, but that bout now appears to be in jeopardy.

A report from Combate is stating that Nunes may have been pulled from the card for failing a United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) issued drug test. There is no word at this time as to what illegal substance Nunes may have been popped for or what kind of punishment the fighter could be facing.

UFC officials are seeking a replacement for Hill to face at this time, as Hill is expected to remain on the card.

Hill (9-7-0) has won just three of eight during her second run in the UFC, with those wins coming over the trio of Ashley Yoder, Maryna Moroz and Jodie Esquibel. Hill is going to be competing for the fourth time in 2019, making her the most active female fighter in the UFC this year. Hill has competed sixteen times as a professional MMA fighter and eleven of those bouts went the distance.

UFC Fight Night Mexico City takes place on Saturday, September 21 from the Arena Ciudad De Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico with Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
