Luis Pena Says His Future Is At Featherweight

Luis Pena was last seen in action at UFC Fight Night Nashville, defeating Steven Peterson by unanimous decision.

The bout marked the fighters featherweight division debut, which is a weight class Pena will remain at.

“I actually spoke to Sean Shelby almost immediately after everything happened (at weigh-ins),” Pena said after the event (via John Morgan & Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “We had a good conversation. He said he knows that things happen. He knows the circumstances that happened, and he’s going to give me another chance. Sean’s a great guy, and it seems that they’ve put some stock in me, and that means a lot to me, so I want to just go ahead and prove them right.”

Pena had previously fought at lightweight in the promotion and has won two of three overall under the UFC banner.

A victorious Pena did miss weight for the event, which is something the fighter takes full responsibility for.

“I could, but I don’t really want to get into it because I don’t want to make any excuses,” Pena said. “I missed weight. That is what it is. That’s on me. It’s my responsibility, and I take full responsibility for it.”

Max Holloway is the current ruler of the featherweight division, but is moving up a weight class to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 next month.
