Pedro Munhoz Says He Deserves A Crack At The UFC Bantamweight Title

TJ Dillashaw recently vacated the UFC Bantamweight Title after adverse findings were found in a drug test in line with UFC Fight Night Brooklyn.

Pedro Munhoz is a top contender in the weight class and he would like to get a crack at the vacant championship.

“Man, I think I deserve a title fight right now,” Munhoz at an American Top Team media day (via Shaun Al-Shatti of MMA Fighting). “I deserve a title fight. Aljamain Sterling, Henry Cejudo — more than either of them I deserve the title shot right now. I just knocked out the former champ. I just knocked out the guy who fought T.J. twice back-to-back for the title. I went there and knocked him out, so it’s my chance now.”

Munhoz is ranked #4 in the UFC Bantamweight Division and neither of the three fighters ranked ahead of him have gotten a bantamweight title shot as well.

If there was one word that would describe Munhoz’s reaction to the Dillashaw news, it would be “surprised.”

“I was [surprised],” Munhoz said. “I didn’t know if that was a part of the trash talk when he said that, but I guess it wasn’t. I don’t know what he tested positive for, but I was surprised. I didn’t think that would happen, especially because T.J. has been in the game a long time, fought for the title a lot of times and gotten tested a lot of times. And right now, this [latest incident] coming up, we know how serious USADA is and I’m very, very glad that they’re part of the game, because we’re all right now on the same page, and people who are going to try to cheat or do something, they’re going to get caught somehow.”

The UFC has yet to make an announcement as to who will fight for the vacant bantamweight title.
