Steven Peterson Says Luis Pena Making “Big Mistake” Dropping to 145-Pounds at UFC Nashville
Steven Peterson steps back into the Octagon at UFC Fight Night Nashville, facing Luis Pena in a featherweight division clash.
Pena is going to be making his UFC Featherweight Division debut in this bout, which is a move that Peterson is calling a “big mistake.”
“I didn’t even see it as a possibility, but not that it’s happening…it’s a great match up. I feel like he’s making a big mistake dropping down to 145, he’s bones at 155…so at 145, he’s gonna be completely depleted and not healthy. That’s definitely gonna show as the fight goes on,” says Peterson in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Peterson’s future opponent in Pena has fought twice before in the UFC, but those encounters came at lightweight.
The UFC star doesn’t plan on calling it a career just yet, but he does have some potential plans for when the fighting days have come to an end.
“I’d like to do that (radio show/podcasting) and commentating, I had a real fun time commentating on the XKO fights…which is a local organization out here in Dallas. They do kickboxing, I was there bantamweight champion back there in 2011. I go way back with them and it’s cool to come back around and to do commentating jobs and meet and greets there, it’s real fun,” says Peterson.
UFC Fight Night Nashville takes place on Saturday, March 23 from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee with Stephen Thompson and Anthony Pettis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
