Dana White Says Daniel Cormier’s Next Title Defense Is “Lined Up”
UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier last defended the gold in the main event of UFC 230, defeating Derrick Lewis by second round submission.
Dana White is now stating that DC’s next title defense is all set, but that’s all he is revealing at this point.
“Well yeah, Francis is there,” White said to ESPN. “Cormier’s hurt right now and we have another fight lined up for Cormier first so, we’ll see how this whole thing plays out.”
If the opponent were to be a fighter from the top five in the UFC Heavyweight Division, it means that either Stipe Miocic, Derrick Lewis, Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes or Alexander Volkov could be next for the champion.
White won’t announce the specifics of the potential title fight at the moment until DC heals up for some injuries.
“[Cormier] is not healthy yet so I would never announce a fight without it being done,” White said. “It makes no sense. I don’t even know when Cormier’s gonna be ready.”
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was a rumored opponent for DC, especially since the two got physical at UFC 226, but Lesnar is scheduled to defend the WWE Universal Title against Seth Rollins this April at WWE Wrestlemania 35.
