Sarah Frota Moving Up A Weight Class

Sarah Frota made her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night Fortaleza, suffering a split decision loss to Livia Renata Souza.

The fighter missed weight for the bout, coming in seven pounds heavier than the allotted 116 pounds allowable for the division.

It looks like the weigh-in miss will cause Frota to move up to flyweight according to her manager in Marcelo Brigadeiro.

“She made weight well (for the Contender Series fight) and if it wasn’t for her period she would have made weight now,” Brigadeiro told MMA Fighting“But she gets too worried about the weight, keeps focused on her weight, and not in her training, for a month and a half, so I think she will feel better in her new weight class.”

Frota earned a UFC contract by competing on Dana White’s Contender Series Brazil Episode 1, defeating Maiara Amanajas Dos Santos by first round knockout. That bout was contested at strawweight and Frota did in fact make weight for that encounter.

There has been no word given at this time as to when Frota will make her debut in the UFC Women’s Flyweight Division, but the fighter is entering a weight class currently ruled by Valentina Shevchenko.
