Jon Fitch Wants To Become A Double Champ & Predicts The PFL Won’t Pay $1 Million To Tournament Winners

Jon Fitch will return to action at Bellator 220, facing fellow UFC veteran Rory MacDonald for the Bellator Welterweight Title in a Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix opening round fight.

As the fighter’s career starts winding down, a huge final goal is to become a two division champion in Bellator MMA.

“I’m a f*cking grandpa, I’m old as f*ck. It’s my new nickname…old as f*ck, because how much longer can I do this. Lets load up the fireworks and go out with a bang, so we got this huge tournament…win this tournament and I’m the man at 170. Lets go up a weight, fight for that title and then retire a double champ…sounds pretty awesome,” says Fitch in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

If Fitch were to become a champ champ in Bellator MMA, it would add him to a list currently occupied by one fighter in Ryan Bader.

The Professional Fighters League (PFL), a promotion Fitch has fought for, recently finished up their first million dollar season and Fitch doesn’t believe those who won their respective tournaments will get the million dollars.

“No (I didn’t wish I’d stayed with the PFL), because they’re not…you don’t get the money all at once. You get paid like yearly and if they go out of business…they go bankrupt, they’re done paying you. I’ll put money down, I’ll bet you a hundred bucks that the guys who won the tournaments this year won’t see all that million dollars. That’s just me from my experiences, I just don’t think they do a good job of making money. So from my observations have been is that they make their money from people investing, so they’re not making any money from their product. The only way they get money is if more people invest, eventually somebody’s gonna stop (investing). I think I got out at the right time,” says Fitch.

Although no dates have been announced yet, a second PFL season is expected sometime later this year.
