Amanda Nunes May Not Fight Cyborg For Another Two Years

Amanda Nunes became a two division UFC champion when she defeated Cyborg by first round knockout in the co-main event of UFC 232.

While some may be clamoring for a rematch between the two, it could be a couple of years before it actually happens.

“Cyborg doesn’t want to fight me if it takes more than a year to prepare, and right now, I don’t think she’s gonna want it because I’m gonna ask for two years to be ready for her again,” Nunes said on UFC Unfiltered. “She said I wanted one year to be ready for her and she didn’t want to wait that much, she don’t wanna stay without fighting but right now I’m asking for two years for the rematch.”

Cyborg’s UFC deal expires in March of this year, meaning the potential rematch may not happen at all if she doesn’t re-sign with the company.

One factor that could delay the potential rematch is that Nunes wants to defend the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title next.

“Yeah I’m gonna defend my belt, my original belt,” Nunes said. “Yeah, for sure I’m gonna go down, defend my belt. My division is waiting for me and we will see what happens after but I don’t think Cyborg wants to wait for two years.”

There has been two previous UFC Women’s Featherweight Champions (Germaine De Randamie & Cyborg) and neither have received a rematch after losing/being stripped of the gold.
