Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix Finals Set For January

There are four competitors left in the Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix, with those competitors being Fedor Emelianenko, Matt Mitrione, Ryan Bader and Chael Sonnen.

With the semi-finals set for Bellator 207 and Bellator 208, fans will see the finals of the grand prix happen this January in Los Angeles.

“L.A. has a great MMA market, we have a great relationship with the Forum, and when you look at the fighter bases, there’s so many great gyms there,” Bellator MMA President Scott Coker told the LA Times. “When I think about MMA in the United States, I think first of L.A., the Bay Area, Las Vegas and New York, L.A. is such a big hub. The guys know that when they fight in L.A., they better bring it.”

Bellator MMA will face some stiff competition that weekend, because the grand prix finals is set for the same two day stretch as the NFL Pro Bowl and WWE Royal Rumble 2019.

The winner of the grand prix will become the Bellator Heavyweight Champion, a title nobody has held since Vitaly Minakov was stripped of it in May of 2016, but the title hadn’t actually been defended since April of 2014.

Bellator Heavyweight World Grand Prix Finals is set for Saturday, January 26 from the Forum in Los Angeles, California with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
