Mara Romero Borella Given 26 Year Suspension By The Italian Anti-Doping Agency
There have been some wild suspensions issued in MMA before, but the one involving UFC fighter Mara Romero Borella may top them all.
Recent, a ruling has been made by the Italian Anti-Doping Agency (IADA) to issue the fighter a 26 year suspension for a wide variety of offenses.
A report from Middle Easy is saying that Borella had already been serving a 15 year suspension from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of Italy for drug trafficking prohibited substance, meaning that when all suspensions are served, it is going to be the year 2044.
Due to the violations, it will also prevent Borella from using any gyms or training centers in Italy during the duration of the suspensions.
Other crimes that Borella has been involved in according to the report are the distribution and sale of cannabis and cocaine. Borella and her then boyfriend were charged with selling the illegal substances at venues such as nightclubs, bars, sporting arenas and even the gym where Borella trained at. Borella was just one of thirty one people caught and tried for that case, which was dubbed the “Operazione Flanker“ by the investigators.
Borella hasn’t been seen in action since UFC On Fox 27, where she suffered a unanimous decision loss to Katlyn Chookagian.
The UFC isn’t obligated to follow the WADA code, so Borella may face no punishment at all from the organization for her role in these illegal crimes.
