Report: Tonya Evinger Removed From UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo, Now Faces Aspen Ladd At UFC 229
Tonya Evinger was left without an opponent at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo after opponent Ketlen Vieira suffered an injury an was removed from the card.
A report from MMA Junkie is now stating that Evinger has been removed from UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo and will now meet #9 Aspen Ladd at UFC 229.
Ladd (6-0-0) has competed just once thus far in the UFC, defeating Lina Lansberg by second round TKO at UFC Fight Night Gdansk. Ladd had also competed five times in the Invicta FC promotion, with notable wins coming over UFC veterans Sijara Eubanks and Amanda Cooper. Ladd also won two of three as an amateur MMA fighter, with that loss coming to UFC veteran Cynthia Calvillo.
Evinger (19-6-0-1NC) is currently winless under the UFC banner, dropping a bout to UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion Cyborg at UFC 214. Evinger is also making her UFC Women’s Bantamweight Division debut in this bout, but the fighter has competed as a bantamweight outside of the promotion. Evinger is also a former Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion, defeating Irene Aldana at Invicta FC 13 to claim the gold.
UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo takes place on Saturday, September 22 from the Ibirapueroa Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Jimi Manuwa and Thiago Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
