Ricky Simon Talks UFC 227 Win, Getting Engaged & Interest In Rescheduled Benito Lopez Fight

Ricky Simon was just in in the Octagon at UFC 227, where he picked up a decision victory over DWTNCS alumni Montel Jackson.

There was a little awkwardness leading into the bout between Simon and Jackson because both competitors are managed by the same management team.

“A little awkward, just because I’ll be doing my interviews and part of my management will be standing like right there saying like ‘why are you going to be Montel, where are you better than Montel?’ Its like all this stuff and I thought it was a little awkward. I was basically talking crap about one of their clients right in front of them, it was fine for me. I was super happy Montel took the fight on short notice, I was thrilled to be on the card still. He seemed to be like a nice guy and so there was no awkwardness or animosity or anything like that, we’re fighters and that what we went to do and we got paid for it,” says Simon in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Simon has now won two of two under the UFC banner, with that other victory coming over Merab Dvalishvili at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City.

The competitor is now on the road to picking up a third UFC win and he would like that opportunity to come this year.

“I felt great going into the fight and the body was healthy, I felt great after. I told them one more fight this year, just in 2018…I had three fights. I like to stay active and I like to make money, so one more fight this year would be perfect,” says Simon.

No comment has been given yet by the UFC as to whether or not Simon will fight again in 2018, but there are still plenty of slots to fill on the remaining cards for this year.
