Colt Cabana Files Lawsuit Against CM Punk
Things are getting messy between Colt Cabana and CM Punk.
In early June, Colt Cabana and CM Punk reportedly embraced in the court room as the jury found them not guilty of defamation in a lawsuit against WWE doctor Chris Amann. The two had been in a long-lasting lawsuit because of statements made on an 2014 Thanksgiving episode of Cabana’s podcast Art of Wrestling.
On Thursday, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Cabana has filed lawsuit against CM Punk for the cost of legal fees and other damages. The court documents were shared along with the report.
The documents state that CM Punk is accused of breach of contract regarding paying for Cabana’s legal costs. The documents have text messages and emails attached where CM Punk said Cabana would be covered and CM Punk’s attorney would be taking care of the situation.
The documents allege that CM Punk agreed to pay for Cabana’s legal fees but “suddenly” demanded Cabana pay over $250,000. Cabana and CM Punk’s legal team were able to come to an understanding that Cabana would be represented by them but in 2017 that changed and Cabana is accusing CM Punk of being the reason he had to seek other legal counsel.
After the Amann verdict was handed down, Cabana asked CM Punk to cover $200,000 dollars but was informed that CM Punk was refusing to do so.
Cabana believes CM Punk temporally agreed to help with legal counsel and fees to keep him from settling with Amann which could have negatively affected CM Punk’s case. Cabana has accused CM Punk of fraud because of this.
Between legal fees and other damages, Cabana is seeking $1,200,000.
