Dana White Says Max Holloway Is Doing Better

UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway was set to defend the gold against Brian Ortega at UFC 226, but Holloway would get pulled from the fight due to concussion-like symptoms.

The champion has since undergone testing to find out the cause of the issues and UFC President Dana White says things are starting to get better for Holloway.

“He’s good,” White told MMA Junkie. “He’s doing well. They gave him a time frame. I’d actually like to wait a little longer on his time frame and make sure that he’s 100 percent. I don’t know yet (what the time frame is).”

Holloway has now pulled out of three straight fights and hasn’t been in action since defeating former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo for a second time at UFC 218.

Even though Holloway may be able to return to action sooner than expected, a concerned White still wants the champion to take more time off.

“What I want to do is have him take some time off,” White said. “Here’s the problem: No matter how far away you book a fight, I’m worried about him starting to spar. I don’t want him to do any of that stuff until it’s absolutely necessary. I want to give him more time. There is no time frame. I just want this kid to be healthy.”

When Holloway does return to action, a bout against UFC 226 opponent Brian Ortega is what’s expected to take place.
