Mickey Gall Doesn’t Think He And CM Punk Deserve UFC 203 Spot
Mickey Gall doesn’t think he and former WWE Champion CM Punk deserve a pay per view spot.
Gall spoke to SB Nation’s Bloody Elbow and expressed his gratitued for the opportunity at UFC 203 on Sept. 10, with the added pageantry that comes with a pay per view fight. But didn’t think himself and Punk, real name Phil Brooks, deserved it.
“It’s a big jump. We’re probably not deserving of being on the pay per view,” Gall said. “It’s hard to say because he’s a superstar, made himself a superstar in his sport. Between us, he has no fights, I have two professional fights and three amateur fights. There’s not going to be anyone else on any pay per view probably this year with 5 fights or less combined.”
Between Gall and Punk, they combine for the least amount of career fights on the UFC 203 card. Every matchup, excluding those two, currently listed on the event has at least 20 combined UFC fights. Gall is 2-0 in UFC, with the Punk fight being his third with the promotion. The fight at Quicken Loans Arena will be Punk’s first UFC and MMA fight.
Punk vs. Gall is listed as the third fight on the UFC 203 card. Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem is the main event and Fabricio Werdum vs. Travis Browne is the second match, in terms of prominence.
“Right now I’m that CM Punk guy and that’s cool. That’s helping me get to where I want to be but I guarantee in my next fights after this, I won’t be known as that anymore,’ Gall said. “That’ll just be just like a footnote. I have big plans in fighting so it’s just a launching pad.”
Punk’s last appearance with the WWE was January 26, 2014, at the Royal Rumble pay per view.. He was the first entrant in the Royal Rumble match and lasted until the final four, when he was eliminated by Kane.
