Daniel Straus Looking To Return From Motorcycle Accident Later This Year
Former Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion Daniel Straus was involved in a serious motorcycle crash in December of 2017.
Despite suffering some serious spinal cord damage in the accident, a hopeful Straus wants to be back in the cage by the end of this year.
“I’m a broken toy that’s dying to be fixed,” Straus said on the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show. “I can be fixed in any way. I’m relearning everything. It’s not like I can’t box, it’s not like I can’t wrestle. It’s like relearning. … Even now I’m trying to get the form right. It took me about three months (to learn to walk again). Everything is slowed down for me because of my spinal cord. I really want to be in the cage by the end of this year. I want to be fighting by the end of this year – and it’s not impossible.”
Whenever Straus does step back into the Bellator MMA cage, it would be the first time he has fought since a submission loss to Emmanuel Sanchez at Bellator 184.
The good thing for Straus is that Bellator MMA has been backing the fighter up since the motorcycle accident.
“I can’t say nothing negative about them because they’ve always done everything they can to help me out in situations,” Straus said. “I’ve been with them for some time. Two-time world champ. They’ve always been fair to me. Obviously you always have problems here and there, but nothing major.”
Straus is a former two time Bellator MMA Featherweight Champion, having defeated Pat Curran and Patricio Pitbull to start both reigns.
