Antonina Shevchenko talks Contender Series Debut, Muay-Thai career & Pro-Wrestling

Antonina Shevchenko (5-0) discusses her upcoming fight against Silvana Gomez Juarez (6-2) at Dana White’s Contender Series on June 26.

Many UFC fans are familiar with multi-time UFC title challenger Valentina Shevchenko, but they’re about to be introduced to her older sister, undefeated Antonina Shevchenko.

Antonina takes on Silvana Gomez Juarez next week on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Her sister Valentina is well known for her striking prowess, and the elder Shevchenko believes we’ll see much of the same out of her on June 26, but isn’t ruling out a grappling exchange.

“What we can expect from my opponent? She’s boxing (a lot). She’s confident in it, I believe. I think she’ll wrestle also. I’m ready for grappling and boxing,” said Shevchenko.

Shevchenko is decorated in the world of muay thai, often competing for Lion Fights. When Fightful’s James Lynch asked her about future plans, she admitted that a UFC contract is the priority. If that doesn’t come, she’ll balance both.

“The goal of this fight is to get the contract with UFC. If I get this contract, it will be an exclusive contract. (If I don’t) I’ll do both like I did last year with muay thai and MMA. I like it,” Shevchenko said.
