Report: Alex Nicholson Joining PFL Season 1 At Heavyweight

UFC veteran Alex Nicholson was last seen defeating former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez at the Cam Soda Legends event.

The fighter will now be coming to the Professional Fighters League and compete at heavyweight for the promotions upcoming first season, according to MMA Junkie. Nicholson is going to be replacing Denis Goltsov, who had to be pulled from the season after visa issues in his home country of Russia.

Nicholson will make his promotional debut at PFL 1, facing fellow UFC veteran Jack May, although the bouts position on the card is not known at this time.

There are now a total of seven UFC veterans competing in the heavyweight division for the inaugural $1 million prize for the PFL’s first season.

Those UFC veterans are the aforementioned Nicholson, the aforementioned Jack May, Jared Rosholt, Shawn Jordan, Josh Copeland, Mike Kyle and Francimar Barroso. Nicholson won just one of four during his time in the UFC, with that victory coming over Devin Clark, while the trio of losses came to Misha Cirkunov, Sam Alvey and Jack Hermansson.

PFL 1 takes place on Thursday, June 7 from the Hulu Theater At Madison Square Garden in new York, new York with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the NBC Sports Network.
