Former LFA champ Andrea Lee Talks UFC debut May 19, Pro-Wrestling & Ronda Rousey
Former LFA Women’s Flyweight Champion Andrea Lee is making her UFC debut at UFC Fight Night Chile, facing Veronica Macedo.
Not only is Lee making her UFC debut this May, but the fighter is also competing outside of North America for the first time as well.
“I’m very excited because it is the first time I’m flying, I’m fighting outside of the country for myself. I’ve been out of the country for Andy (?), I helped corner her and its a new experience for me…having to cut weight…fly that far. That’s going to be the worst part of it, I’m excited and I’m happy,” Lee said in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Lee was expected to make her UFC debut last October at UFC 216, but a USADA rule kept the fighter from facing Kalindra Faria at the event.
Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey has transitioned to the sport of professional wrestling, which has made Lee want to check out the events even more now.
“I think because of Ronda Rousey…I watch it more, I’ll scroll through the news feed trying to find the new WWE stuff…like mainly for Ronda. She brought attention to women’s MMA and she brought even more attention to women (wrestling in the) WWE, I think its exciting,” says Lee.
UFC Fight Night Chile takes place on Saturday, May 19 from the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile with Damien Maia and Kamaru Usman headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
