Dana White Says Conor McGregor Tried To Justify Attack
UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has turned himself into the New York Police Department after he and an entourage attacked a bus full of UFC fighters in an alleged attempt to get at Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Dana White is the UFC President and he had a text message exchange with McGregor before the fighter turned himself into the authorities, but White says McGregor feels justified by the action taken this past Thursday.
“Conor and I talked through text yesterday. Obviously the worst conversation we’ve ever had. But we talked yesterday before he turned himself in,” he said on First Things First. “It’s not that I don’t think he understood what happened. It’s just that he justified it. It was justified to him. ‘I’m sorry about Mike. I’m sorry about Rose, and whoever else, but this had to be done.’ They feel like these guys attacked his friend and this needs to be done.”
The attack by McGregor and company led to three fights being pulled from the UFC card, which is set for this Saturday.
White also claims that McGregor and company injured a security guard who happened to be working the event.
“This is way bigger than ‘are you going to fire the guy?’ This is criminal,” he said. “Fighters, one of our staff, one of our security guys was punched repeatedly by guys. We have the whole footage. We have footage from cameras that are shooting UFC Embedded, cameras inside and outside (the bus), and the arena. We have everything.”
McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and criminal mischief, but no penalties have been given out by the UFC at this time.
