Paige VanZant Says Uriah Hall Situation Lead Her To Stop Fighting At Strawweight
Paige VanZant made her flyweight division debut at UFC Fight Night St. Louis, suffering a decision loss to Jessica-Rose Clark.
PVZ was right next to Uriah Hall when he had a host of health problems prior to the UFC Fight Night St. Louis weigh-ins. Witnessing what her fellow fighter went through made PVZ realize that the extreme weight cutting wasn’t worth it anymore.
”I was at a fight where a fellow UFC fighter, Uriah Hall, was cutting weight and he pushed himself just to the brink of death. He had kidney failure and started seizing in the hallway right in front of me. It’s because of that I’m like ‘I cant do this anymore,’” VanZant said to BBC.
VanZant also suffered a broken arm in her fight against Clark, but will compete again at flyweight when the injury heals up.
The fighter also admits that she was also dealing with eating disorders while cutting weight.
“I was having different issues with myself and my body. I was giving myself an eating disorder to make the weight,” says VanZant.
During her time competing at strawweight, a recovering VanZant earned a 4-2-0 record in the UFC, but is now winless since moving up to flyweight.
