Josh Emmett Talks Jeremy Stephens Fight & Says Brian Ortega Turn Him Down

Rising featherweight contender Josh Emmett is preparing to headline his first ever UFC card when he faces Jeremy Stephens in the main event of UFC On Fox 28.

Emmett catapulted himself into the top of the featherweight division rankings with an upset win over Ricardo Lamas at UFC On Fox 26, which Emmett calls the most important win of his career.

“It was definitely the most important win of my career, the biggest fight of my career at the time. No, its amazing, I’ve been working so long and so hard for this and when that opportunity was presented to me, I took it in a heartbeat. It was the outcome that my coaches and friend and teammates and family know would happen. It was just phenomenal the way it went down. I knew I could go out there and win the fight, but to do it in devastating fashion like that, where it will be a highlight reel knockout for years to come was that much sweeter,” Emmett said in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

The featherweight contender has already competed five times under the UFC banner, earning a record of 4-1-0 in the promotion (13-1-0 overall).

Despite being unranked prior to the Lamas knockout, one thing that hasn’t surprised Emmett is how quickly he rose in the featherweight division.

“It really hasn’t (shocked him in how fast he moved up in the division), it’s just another fight and I’ve been doing this for so long. It feels like I am just fighting on the regional scene, I’m just on that much bigger of a platform. It’s just nice because I’ve seen all my teammates, this like happened to them (moving up the rankings). It’s my time and I just got to go out there and do what I do best,” says Emmett.

UFC On Fox 28 takes place on Saturday, February 24 from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida with Josh Emmett and Jeremy Stephens headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox.
