Rose Namajunas vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk Rematch Set For UFC 223
A second title fight is coming to an ever increasingly loaded UFC 223 card as UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas defends the gold against #1 Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Namajunas (7-3-0) would be making the first defense of the championship, which she won by defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk in their first encounter at UFC 217. Namajunas has won a total of five fights in the UFC, with four of those wins coming by submission or KO/TKO. Namajunas competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 20, making it to the finals before losing to Carla Esparza.
Jedrzejczyk (14-1-0) not only lost to title to Namajunas at UFC 217, but also suffered the first defeat of her professional MMA career. Jedrzejczyk first won the gold by defeating Carla Esparza at UFC 185 and would defend it five times before losing it. Jedrzejczyk also went undefeated during her time as an amateur MMA fighter, which includes a win over fellow UFC fight Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov potentially headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
