Cub Swanson’s UFC Contract Expired, Dana White Wants New Deal

Cub Swanson was submitted in the second round of his main event bout against Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Night Fresno.

The fight was the last for Swanson on his UFC contract and the fighter is sure negotiations will soon begin with the promotion.

“It stings,” Swanson told MMA Junkie. “It just gets thrown back in your face, ‘You don’t win the big ones.’ So, it’s like, what am I going to say? I’m sure we’ll negotiate. Dana said ‘let’s make a deal’ from outside the cage. But do I got to crawl back and say, ‘OK, I’ll take that deal I said no to.’ We’ll see. I’m going to enjoy family over Christmas and all that and try not to be in low spirits. I thought I fought great. I just didn’t get the ending I wanted.”

Swanson has spent the last six-plus years in the UFC and he has earned a record of 10-4-0 in the promotion (25-8-0 overall).

UFC President Dana White was cage side at UFC Fight Night Fresno and he says that the promotion will negotiate with Swanson.

“I yelled up to him, ‘Let’s get a deal done,'” White said. “Cub’s been around forever. He’s a great kid, and I like him, and hopefully we can get something done with him, and I can keep him happy. I want him to be happy.”

While both side wants the deal to get done, the featherweight contender has stated that negotiations probably won’t begin until the holiday season commences.
