Tyron Woodley Claims Dana White Demotes Him As A Fighter
UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley and UFC President Dana White haven’t always seen eye to eye over the years.
The welterweight champion is now claiming that the longtime UFC President is constantly demoting him as a fighter.
“Delusional Dana constantly demotes me as a fighter when the job is to promote his fighters, especially champions,” Woodley said to MMA Fighting. “Why would I get in camp, and why would Nate give a 15 million dollar purse request if there was no fight? It’s obvious they haven’t found their blockbuster headliner yet. This was a reality, and they know it. The inability to come to financial terms with Nate killed it.”
White has stated in the past that Woodley’s title defenses aren’t always the most exciting, while Woodley has promised to “leak sh*t” about White and the UFC before.
Woodley is also looking for a big name opponent to fight, which is why he badly wanted a rumored bout with Nate Diaz.
“I’ve been looking for that name, man. This would be the first opponent (Nate Diaz) I get to fight that I get that high-profile fight that actually means something. The Carlos Condit was a high-profile fight, but [he wasn’t] into having huge star-power. Neither was Robbie Lawler. Neither were some of the other guys I fought and beat. But this is a guy who is directly connected to his brother Nick, directly connected to Conor McGregor, so it could really set me up to fight one of those guys afterward,” Woodley said on The MMA Hour.
Since the fight with Nate Diaz fell through, the UFC Welterweight Champion has opted to get shoulder surgery and he isn’t returning to action until sometime in 2018.
