Exclusive: UFC Shanghai’s Chase Sherman: “I’m Not Going To Chase Somebody Around The F—in’ Cage!”
After starting his career in the UFC with two consecutive losses, Heavyweight up-and-comer Chase Sherman looks to earn his third straight win in under seven months at UFC Shanghai.
When speaking to Fightful.com's James Lynch, Sherman spoke of his UFC on Fox win in July over Damian Grabowski. Despite the one-sided nature of the bout, he wasn't pleased as to how the fight played out.
"Watching the fight from an outside point of view, I wasn't a fan of it. I like wars. I like putting on a show. Even though it was a dominant win, I'd like to have that highlight reel finish or fight of the night type fight. You can't do that you're entire career, especially at heavyweight. You need to have some kind of longevity," said Sherman.
When asked about his upcoming matchup at UFC Shanghai with Shamil Abdurakhimov, Sherman said he doesn't expect an exciting fight, but thinks the UFC could end up firing his opponent if he ends up with a boring loss.
"I think it's a good matchup. He's a tough fighter. He's tough in the sense that he's not super athletic or super powerful, anything like that. He's a good defensive fighter. He doesn't let you get in a rhythm on the feet. He's an all around intelligent fighter. It's not going to be a fun fight, I don't think. It's going to be more of a lulling, dragging fight, scoring points when I can. (His) fights are kind of boring. I don't know how that's going to be. I'm not going to chase somebody around the f–kin' cage all night. It's ridiculous. People spend good money on that, we're here to be entertainers. (UFC) will probably cut his ass if he loses," said Sherman.
In the full interview, Chase Sherman (11-3) discusses his upcoming fight against Shamil Abdurahimov (17-4) at UFC Fight Night 122 on Nov. 25. Chase also talks about his win over Damian Grabowski, fighting outside the U.S. for the first time and training at Jackson/Winkeljohn for this camp.
