Jorge Masvidal Defends Colby Covington & His Comments

Welterweight fighter Colby Coving created controversy when he called the Brazilian people “filthy animals” during his post-fight interview at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo.

Jorge Masvidal is a teammate of Covington’s at American Top Team and he is coming to the defense of the fighter.

“Does he really mean that they’re filthy animals? No, man. But, it’s entertainment, also,” Masvidal said on The MMA Hour. “And at the same time, if you’re getting disrespected – if you’re coming over to Miami, and people are throwing shit at you, trying to spit on you, shoving your corners, what’s gonna happen? I think he’s all in the right man. Especially if he meant that. If that came from his heart, man, you can’t get mad at him, that’s how he feels.”

Covington has apologized to the “filthy animals” that he compared to the Brazilians, but it is unknown at this time if he will truly apologize for his comments.

Masvidal is quick to admit that the welterweight contender does have issues with authority.

“Colby, since I’ve known him, he has a real problem with authority,” Masvidal said. “Like if we get pulled over by the police, I’m like ‘yes sir, no sir. Sir, I’m gonna reach into the glove compartment for my license and registration, please don’t shoot me.’ And Colby is like a f–king a—hole..”

The UFC Code Of Conduct Committee is investigating the situation at this time, but they have made any announcement yet on their findings.
