Santiago Ponzinibbio Says He’s A Win Away From A Title Shot
Santiago Ponzinibbio picked up the biggest win of his professional MMA career when he defeated Gunnar Nelson in the main event of UFC Fight Night Glasgow.
With the huge win behind him, the Brazilian believes one more victory could get him a shot at the UFC Welterweight Title.
"Why not? Four wins on TUF, seven in the UFC,” Ponzinibbio said to MMA Fighting. "Five wins in a row, and all my fights are entertaining. People like watching me fight. I could fight for the belt now, but they won’t give me. So give me a fight and then I’ll go for the belt."
Ponzinibbio doesn’t have another fight scheduled at the moment, but he would like to fight one more time by the end of the year.
The Brazilian fighter also feels he is a top contender because he is currently on a five fight winning streak, with all of those wins coming over quality opponents.
"I thought it was a good fight for me and for the fans, but I’m waiting for an answer,” Ponzinibbio said. "I’d like to fight in December, so we’ll see what happens. I’m ready to fight the best. Five wins in a row, beat good opponents and finished the No. 8 in 82 seconds."
Tyron Woodley is the current UFC Welterweight Champion, but he is waiting to see if he could get a fight against the winner of the UFC 217 main event between Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre.
