Sami Callihan Says He Made More Money After Leaving WWE
Sami Callihan does not like the term "indy wrestling."
In 2015, Sami Callihan left NXT, where he was known as Solomon Crowe. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Callihan discussed his time at NXT. He said he was not pleased with his performance because he felt like he changed to fit WWE and should have stuck to being himself more. He also said leaving WWE was a "roll of the dice" and he claimed he made the right bet.
"Everyone wants a Wrestlemania moment. But at the end of the day, it ain't just WWE," said Callihan."There are wrestlers out there that don't work for WWE making six-figure contracts. You don't want to go into what I made last year, because it was more than I made in WWE. There's those other avenues in wrestling now," he continued.
Callihan cited other independent wrestlers like The Young Bucks and Marty Scurll as examples of successful wrestlers outside of WWE making lots of money. But Callihan said he does not like using the term "independent wrestler."
"It's all the same at the end of the day. I'm getting really sick of this term 'indy wrestling.' Now it's not indy wrestling, there are companies broadcasting all over the world, getting thousands and millions of views…There is no 'indies' anymore," said Callihan.
Sami Callihan can be seen on Lucha Underground as Jeremiah Crane on El Rey Network and he performs at independent wrestling promotions around the world.
Other topics covered in the interview included how he choose the names Jeremiah Crane and Solomon Crowe, his exit from WWE, and the "door' still being open at WWE.
The rest of the interview can be seen on Chris Van Vliet's YouTube channel.
