Tony Ferguson Believes Khabib Nurmagomedov Is Setting Himself Up To Fail
Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were set to meet several times in the UFC, but injuries and other factors have also kept the bout from happening.
The lightweight contender is under the impression that Nurmagomedov continues setting himself up for failure.
“I think wholeheartedly the Performance Institute is a good idea, but if he (Khabib Nurmagomedov) wants to wait until fall to do that, I think you’re preparing for failure,” Ferguson told MMA Junkie Radio. “You need to get your ass there now. Learn how to count some calories and actually give a (expletive) for your weight. I understand he doesn’t need money to fight – then retire. (Expletive) go away, man. You want to fight at 170, you want make a superfight, well we can handle that.”
Ferguson hasn’t competed himself since defeating former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 98, while Nurmagomedov hasn’t fought since defeating Michael Johnson at UFC 205.
Although he wants a fight with Nurmagomedov, the lightweight contender in Ferguson has also been eyeing a potential battle with UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor. Ferguson did attend the Los Angeles win of the McGregor vs. Mayweather press tour, stating that McGregor wouldn’t make eye contact with him/
As far as Nurmagomedov goes, the fighter is planning on returning to action this fall, but no fight has been announced at this time.
