John Makdessi Replaces Claudio Puelles Against Sage Northcutt At UFC 214
Claudio Puelles has suffered an undisclosed injury and he is off of the UFC 214 card, replacing him against Sage Northcutt is going to be John Makdessi.
Northcutt (8-2-0) is returning to the lightweight division after a three fight stint at welterweight, where the fighter earned a record of 1-2-0. Those three fights at welterweight saw Northcutt defeat Enrique Marin, while suffering defeats to Bryan Barberena and Mickey Gall. Northcutt is undefeated as a lightweight fighter in the UFC, having earned victories over Francisco Trevino and Cody Pfister.
Makdessi (14-6-0) has won just one of his last four fights in the UFC, with those three losses coming to Donald Cerrone, Yancy Medeiros and Lando Vanatta. Makdessi hasn’t won a fight on a UFC pay-per-view card in just over two years, with that last pay-per-view card win coming over Shane Campbell at UFC 186 in April of 2015. Makdessi is also competing for the first time in over eight months, as his last bout against Lando Vanatta came at UFC 210 in December of last year.
UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
