Simon Gotch Released From WWE

The Vaudevillains are no more as the WWE has announced that Simon Gotch has been released.

The announcement came via a short post on WWE.com and Twitter.

“WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017,” the announcement read. “WWE wishes Gotch the best in all his future endeavors.”

Gotch had been with WWE since June 2013. A year later, Gotch formed a tag team known as The Vaudevillains in NXT with fellow superstar Aiden English, winning the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn in August 2015 when they defeated Blake and Murphy for the belts.

The pair were then called up to the main roster in April 2016 after WrestleMania 32, and at Payback, during a match with Enzo Amore & Big Cass, Amore received a concussion when Gotch propelled him into the ropes with too much velocity. Soon after, The Vaudevillains feuded with The New Day for the WWE Tag Team Championships. After failing to win the titles, Gotch and English found themselves demoted to enhancement status, and made sparse appearances on WWE TV.

The team was drafted to Smackdown during the brand extension draft in June 2016, but heat came to Gotch shortly before the draft as it had been reported that he had gotten into a fight backstage with Sin Cara. The fight left Gotch with a black eye, and left him in the doghouse with the company, allegedly, due to his mouth and overall attitude.

The pair last appeared together in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale at WrestleMania 33, but were part of a dark match against American Alpha before the SmackDown Live tapings last night.
