Chad Gable Wants To Finish The Story And Defeat Gunther For WWE Intercontinental Championship

Chad Gable also has a story he wants to finish.

Chad Gable engaged in a brief rivalry with WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther throughout the summer of 2023. Gunther defeated Gable on the September 4, 2023, episode of WWE Raw in order to officially stake his claim as the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion in history.

Chad Gable still believes he has unfinished business with Gunther and during a recent appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Gable noted that he wants to finish the story with Gunther and defeat him for the Intercontinental Championship, finally capturing his first singles Championship in WWE.

“For those that didn’t see I went through a period through the late summer and early fall with with Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. He’s on this insane run right now, a record-setting run with the title. I don’t think I ever got closure with [his feud with Gunther]. I feel like there was still some loose ends left there, that could still be tied up. So first and foremost, if I had it my way I’d like to finish that up. I’d like to finish that story,” he said. “I’d like to win that championship and really solidify myself as a singles guy, finally. I’ve kind of always had this stigma attached to me that I’m a tag team wrestler, and I think winning my first singles championship is my chance to break free from that for good. So, that would be my goal.”

Gunther is currently focused on a rivalry with Jey Uso and recently set his sights on Seth Rollins and the World Heavyweight Championship as well.

Gunther told Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp that he would consider forfeiting the WWE Intercontinental Championship if he were to capture the WWE World Championship. Learn more here
