Undertaker: When Cody Rhodes Said He Wouldn’t Face Roman Reigns At WrestleMania, My Heart Sunk
The Undertaker is just like everyone else and was heartbroken when it seemed as though Cody Rhodes wouldn’t be attempting to finish the story at WrestleMania 40.
Undertaker has seen many WrestleMania cards shift gears in major ways throughout his 30-plus years with WWE. This year’s Road to WrestleMania has already seen quite a fair number of shake-ups from CM Punk being injured to the Rock seemingly coming in to take Cody Rhodes’ spot in a match with Roman Reigns.
While Cody has since declared that he will be facing Roman, during the February 2 episode of WWE SmackDown, Rhodes had told Reigns that he wouldn’t be coming for him at WrestleMania, leading to The Rock and Roman Reigns having a staredown.
The Undertaker recently filmed his first episode of the newly-formatted Six Feet Under podcast and the podcast was filmed on February 3. During the discussion, Undertaker admitted that his heart sank into his stomach when he heard that Cody wasn’t likely to finish the story to set up a potential match between Rock and Reigns.
“I wanted to hear Cody’s promo. It was great. It was so good and I was so invested. When he said, ‘… just not at WrestleMania,’ my freaking heart sunk into my stomach because I knew at that moment what was about to happen,” he said. “Believe me, money-wise, having The Rock at WrestleMania, brother, come on, against Roman who has been Champion for what, 13 years now? Samoan versus Samoan. It’s huge and it is what it is.”
Undertaker also praised Cody Rhodes for how he handled the situation noting that he had been in some similar situations throughout his career.
“Knowing and being in that situation a couple of times myself during my career, for Cody to go out and to deliver the promo that he delivered last night, I felt for him. I felt that not in my stomach because, like I said, I had been there before and he did it like a champ. He did it so professionally.”
Undertaker would go on to suggest that Cody Rhodes versus Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship would be a tremendous WrestleMania match but as we now know, that is not the case.
The Road to WrestleMania took another turn during the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event on February 8 where Rock and Roman Reigns ended up aligning against Cody Rhodes following what they perceived to be disrespect toward their shared bloodline.
The Rock and Roman Reigns will appear on the February 16 episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown to further continue the Road to WrestleMania. Check out the full card here.
Seth Rollins will now have his WrestleMania challenger determined by way of the WWE Elimination Chamber. Learn more here.
