Ahead of the February 6 episode of WWE NXT, WWE taped matches for the February 9 episode of NXT Level Up. Malachi is a former DPW Champion, and he has competed throughout the independent scene. In October 2023, Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net reported that Jay Malachi had been offered a WWE deal following a tryout, and he was expected to report to the WWE Performance Center in January. Mike Johnson of PWInsider later reported that Malachi was believed to have signed with the company.
