Eric Bischoff Says WCW Needed Pat Patterson In The 1990s As ‘Someone To Layout Great Matches’

Eric Bischoff praises Pat Patterson as the one person he would have liked to have stolen from WWE when working for WCW in the ’90s.

Talents jumping from one promotion to another was a highlight of the Monday Night War between WWE and WCW in the ’90s. Arguably, there was never a hotter moment during this era than when Scott Hall appeared on Monday Nitro, kick-starting the nWo angle in May 1996.

During a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff was asked about the one Superstar he wishes World Championship Wrestling would have acquired from the then-World Wrestling Federation. Perhaps surprisingly, Bischoff does not say he wishes he could have employed The Undertaker or Shawn Michaels. Bischoff reveals that he would have targeted Pat Patterson because he believes WCW needed someone who could have structured great matches for them.

“I go for Pat Patterson. You put it out a little while ago. We were so deep in talent. There was no need for another star. There was a need for someone who really could layout great matches and great finishes. I would have hired Pat Patterson in a heartbeat,” said Eric.

Pat Patterson may have been a good fit at the time. During his days in the WWE up until that point, Patterson had worked with names such as Scott Hall, Randy Savage, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, and other talents who were working with WCW at the time, but Patterson always remained loyal to WWE.

Elsewhere in this podcast, Bischoff praised present-day superstars Tiffany Stratton and Bron Breakker. Read more here.
