EXCLUSIVE: Jim Ross Says Kenny Omega “Very Good” But “Still Putting Game Together”

Jim Ross says Kenny Omega is very good, but he sees where Omega should improve.

Ross recently provided English commentary for a North American re-broadcast of New Japan Pro Wrestling's 2016 G1 Climax. In an exclusive interview with Fightful Wrestling, he said he did not watch any of the matches before he recorded his commentary with Josh Barnett. Ross would say he enjoys watching Omega but he has some criticisms about Omega demeanor.

"He's good, he's very good, he's going to get better. There's two sides to Kenny. Kenny is a very introspective, intelligent young man," said Ross. "I think he's still putting his game together, I think he'd probably admit that. He's going to continue to add, subtract, add wrinkles, amend things. So he's not as good as he's going to be, which is exciting. Sometimes, he's not serious at the wrong times in my opinion. That happened a lot early in the year 2016 when he was on this odyssey, that was pretty extraordinary to be honest with you. But at times, he would have 'a little too much fun', winking at us or eyebrows up, and I get there's a time and place for that, but I know when Josh (Barnett) and I called the Omega/Okada match from Wrestle Kingdom, he was dead serious.  It was the Kenny Omega I enjoy watching, he had a plan, he was serious, he didnt B.S. me, his work was solid and snug and logical, he sold well. He was all the things he needed to do to make that match extraordinary," added Ross.

Omega lost his match against Okada, then was the subject of WWE rumors. Eventually, Omega would return to New Japan Pro Wrestling. In the interview Ross would also discuss Ronda Rousey's influence on WWE's women division and wrestlers being at multiple promotions

The rest of the interview can be heard above. Jim Ross is calling the G1 Climax on AXS TV, which begins airing tonight.
