WWE SmackDown (8/18/2023).
- Grayson Waller hosted a new episode of “The Grayson Waller Effect” with LWO’s Santos Escobar & Rey Mysterio. Waller tried to start tension between Mysterio & Escobar before running down Mysterio for being another legend trying to steal the glory from a young talent, but Escobar said the only person he was angry at was Austin Theory for costing him the match.
Austin Theory interrupted proceedings and demanded to get handed the United States Championship. Adam Pearce interrupted to deny the option but was interrupted by LA Knight. Knight called out Theory for only defending the belt once in 3 months & lost it. Knight then pitched a #1 Contender’s Match between himself & Theory for the United States Title, which Pearce agreed to, setting it up for after the commercial break. - WWE United States Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Austin Theory def. LA Knight.
- The miz came to the ring to distract LA Knight. Knight clotheslined Miz to the outside, but Theory saw the opening and locked in a Schoolboy Roll-Up for the pinfall win.
- There was a vignette of John Cena, Sheamus, Sami Zayn, Charlotte Flair & Natalya congratulating Edge on his reaching 25 Years as a professional in WWE.
- There was a video package highlighting Edge’s 25-year WWE Career, eating commentary from John Cena, The Undertaker, Randy Orton, and more.
- Bianca Belair & Charlotte Flair def. Damage CTRL (Bayley & Iyo Sky) (w/ Dakota Kai).
- There was a video package of Bayley, Cody Rhodes, Ricochet & more recalling Edge’s first retirement in 2010.
- Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) def. The OC (Luke Gallows & “The Machine Gun” Karl Anderson) (w/ “Michin” Mia Yim).
- Bobby Lashley celebrated with the Street Profits on the ramp after the match.
- There was a video package recapping Jey Uso “quitting WWE” from the August 11, 2023 edition of SmackDown.
- Paul Heyman was interviewed by Kayla Braxton backstage. Heyman ran down on Jey leaving WWE & taunted Braxton’s questions for Jey Uso before he was interrupted by a phone call. After the phone call, Heyman revealed that Jimmy Uso would be on SmackDown next week.
- Edge’s 25th Anniversary Celebration: Edge def. Sheamus.
