Chelsea Green Says Women’s Tag Team Title Victory Is Start Of Her And Sonya Deville’s Story As A Team
Chelsea Green reflects on her connection with Sonya Deville dating back to their time as contestants on Tough Enough and capturing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville started their WWE journeys together as contestants in the 2015 season of WWE Tough Enough. While neither of them won that season, their bond began on that night and would eventually lead to Chelsea and Sonia capturing the WWE women’s Tag Team Championship on the July 17, 2023 episode of Monday Night Raw.
Chelsea recently spoke with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp about that victory being a full-circle moment for herself and Deville, noting that this is just the beginning of their story as a tag team.
“I mean, aside from myself and Sonya, I kept in touch with all of those women, you know, Mandy Rose, and Sara Lee. We had a bond from that Tough Enough experience that nobody else will ever understand unless you were on a reality show like Tough Enough. So now, eight years later to be able to stand there in the ring next to Sonya. I’ve watched her grow right in front of me on TV, and then to be able to win the titles alongside her was — I could not have written a better ending to the story. Really, it’s just the beginning of our story together as a tag team.”
Chelsea had not yet seen her custom championship side plates at the time of the interview. However, when asked what she thought her side plates would look like, she expressed faith in the WWE creative staff coming up with something fun with a lot of pizzazz to represent her character.
“I have no idea, so I couldn’t even begin to guess. I know they’ll have like an extra little bit of pizzazz because that’s who I am. So they’ll think of something fun. I can’t wait to see it. ”
In the past, Chelsea’s husband, Matt Cardona spoke about how important it was for Chelsea to return to WWE, noting that she never got a true chance to spread her wings in the company. Fans can read his comments here.
