Kris Statlander Is Proud Of Athena’s Success In ROH Despite Heel Turn; Hopes To Face Her One Day
Kris Statlander discusses Athena’s change in attitude and the hope that she will wrestle her one day.
Prior to Kris Statlander being put on the shelf due to injury, she was very close on-screen with Athena. Since she’s been away, Athena has taken over a Ring of Honor with a profound change in attitude from the baby face that arrived in AEW in 2022.
Even though they view things differently from a moral perspective, Statlander is proud of what Athena has accomplished, understanding that sometimes you must do what you need to do to achieve what you want, even if you can’t be as nice as you once were.
“I mean, you got to do what you got to do, and whatever she did got her some gold. I’m proud of her for that as much as it’s not the same silly person. I mean, she’s still very silly but very intimidating, more so now than ever, and that’s just a very frightening dynamic for a person to have. But you know what, she won gold that way, and good for her for doing that. I’m very proud of her for getting to the top. Even if she had to not be as nice as she once was. We all go through it. I get it,” said the current AEW TBS Champion to Cageside Seat’s Rick Ucchino on Bleav in Pro Wrestling.
As for whether or not she would like to step in the ring with Athena, Statlander understands that it’s more difficult now that they are both on opposite brands.
“I would hope so. I do hope that we get the chance to eventually face each other. I know it’s kind of a difficult position now with us both being champions of different brands. So it’s hard to make that happen, but I do hope that, at some point down the line, we can test that opponent-rivalry chemistry as well as our friendship.”
For now, Athena is comfortably sitting atop the Ring of Honor women’s division while Krid Statlander is trying to make the most of her opportunity as AEW TBS Champion.
