Gunther Wants To Headline WrestleMania 40 With Or Without The WWE Intercontinental Championship
Gunther wants to headline WrestleMania 40, and it doesn’t matter who is across the ring for him or what championship belt is on the line.
Gunther has made history in his first year on the WWE main roster, becoming the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion since The Honky Tonk Man. At his first WrestleMania, he will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. However, he’s hopeful that within a year’s time, he will be headlining the Showcase of the Immortals.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Gunther predicted that he would be in the headlining match of the 40th WrestleMania and said that he has no specific dream opponent. He prefers to let the fans’ imaginations run wild.
“The main event. That’s the prediction,” Gunther said when asked where he would be at next year’s WrestleMania. When asked what title he would be competing for, he responded, “That’s something we shall see. I don’t plan on losing [the WWE Intercontinental Title], and I want to make it the most important thing there is. I leave [the selection of a dream opponent] up to everybody else to make their wish.
“Obviously, in this company, there are so many great guys that I would really like to get in the ring with, but whatever the challenge is, I’m going to take it head-on and make the most out of it,” he continued. “So, everything will come around in the end. You get in the ring with everybody if you’re here long enough, so I take it as it comes.”
However, Gunther said that perhaps he could step up to Brock Lesnar in a one-on-one next year. Read more of his comments on that matter here.
