Mercedes Mone Comments On Potential WWE Return
Mercedes Mone made her in-ring debut for NJPW on Saturday at NJPW Battle in the Valley, marking her first match since leaving WWE in May.
Mone (formerly Sasha Banks in WWE) was victorious over KAIRI, capturing the IWGP Women’s Championship.
With Mone on top of a new wrestling promotion, ahead of NJPW Battle in the Valley, she was asked if she would consider going into MMA.
“I definitely don’t think so,” Mone told Marc Raimondi of ESPN. “No, no MMA for me. Never say never, but you can definitely see some of my Sityodtong [MMA camp] techniques in the ring. Let me see Amanda Nunes, is she ready for me?”
Asked about potentially returning to WWE, Mone said, “I guess people like to say ‘never say never.’ You never know in life. I never knew life would take me here, but I always have to follow my heart so wherever my heart takes me is where I’m going to go.”
When Raimondi said there was a better chance of a WWE return than a Nunes fight, Mone replied, “Probably the same chances. She’s ready to go, I’m ready to go too. I took on Ronda (Rousey), I can do it.”
Mone and Naomi (Trinity Fatu) walked out of WWE in May 2022 after a meeting with Vince McMahon with reported creative differences coming between the two sides. Mone & Naomi were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions when they walked out. They were subsequently suspended and did not return to WWE TV.
