Live Coverage
– ROH Pure Champio Wheeler Yuta & ROH World Heavyweight Champion Claudio Castagnoli came to the ring to cut a promo. Claudio said that it was a pleasure to stand as the ROH World Champion, especially in front of Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Claudio said that he would feel more comfortable in ring clothes before issuing an open challenge for the following week. From out of nowhere, Dustin Rhodes accepted the challenge. Rhodes said that for 34 years, he had dreamed of holding a World Heavyweight Championship. Rhodes said that this was a dream of his before saying that if Claudio accepted the challenge, he would get the best version of Rhodes possible. Claudio pointed out that he still sees the fire in his eyes since he had for 34 years before accepting Rhodes’ challenge. Rhodes gave him his word and said that he will see him in Cleveland.
– Ortiz and Ruby Soho were interviewed backstage by Lexy Nair, with Soho saying that she had been chomping on the bit on getting their hands on Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo. Ortiz shouted to the microphone and challenged Melo and Guevara to a match for a later date.
AEW Tag Team Championship Match.
Swerve In Our Glory (c) (Keith Lee & Shane “Swerve” Strickland) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen).
The match began with Lee tossing Kassidy over his head, but Kassidy landed on his feet. Kassidy threw body shots at Lee, but Lee responded with a double-hand chop on Kassidy. Swerve tagged in and hit an uppercut and snap marere on Kassidy. Swerve went for a suplex, but Quen leaped to distract Swerve before Kassidy hit a Hurrincanrana on Swerve and a tornillo on Swerve to the outside. Quen hit a double stomp on Swerve’s back before ramming his shoulder on Swerve’s abdomen in the corner. Quen hit a dropkick on Swerve before tagging in Kassidy. Swerve threw Kassidy over the top rope, but Quen placed Swerve in the top turnbuckle before Kassidy hit an enziguri in the corner. Swerve hit a stomp on Quen before tagging in Lee. Lee hit two shoulder tackles and a veal on Kassidy before hitting a reversed Veal on Quen and another veal on Kassidy. Lee hit a massive lariat on Kassidy for a near fall. Lee hit the Pounce on Quen for a near fall. Swerve tagged back in and hit the Swerve Kick for a near fall. Swerve hit the JML Driver on Quen for the pinfall win, retaining the AEW Tag Titles.
Winners & Still AEW Tag Team Champions: Swerve In Our Glory (c) (Keith Lee & Shane “Swerve” Strickland).
– The Factory played cards backstage before being confronted by Powerhouse Hobbs. QT Marshall promised Hobbs that the Factory will take care of Ricky Starks before Hobbs walked out of f shot.
FTW Championship Match.
Hook (c) vs. Zack Clayton.
Before the match, Clayton cut a promo and said that he was the biggest star in West Virginia, calling it a cesspool. He promised he would bring the title to New Jersey. The match began with Clayton attempting a lariat, but Hook caught him in the Redrum. Hook made Clayton pass out for the submission victory.
Winner: Hook.
– Matt Menard & Angelo Parker cut a promo on Hook, with Menard saying that Hook wants a taste. Parker asked “what if the FTW Championship was held by a Sports Entertainer?”, teasing a feud between Hook and Parker.
– Lexy Nair interviewed Billy Gunn backstage, with Gunn saying that The Gunn Clubb put their big boy pants at the wrong person. He then said that he and The Acclaimed would be gunning at The Gunn Clubb.
Buddy Matthews (w/ Julia Hart) vs. Serpentico.
Matthews hit a shotgun dropkick on Serpentico and climbed to the top rope, but Serpentico rolled out of the ring. Matthews tossed Serpentico into the barricade. Back in the ring, Serpentico went for a Hurrincanrana, but Matthews reversed it with a Buckle Bomb and a lifted knee strike. Matthews hit Murphy’s Law for the pinfall win.
Winner: Buddy Matthews.
– Miro walked down the ramp and tossed Malakai Black’s mask before he and Matthews exchanged strikes. After Julia Hart stared down Miro, Miro hit a lariat on Matthews and stomped him down in the ring corner. Miro asked “where are the pagans?!” before hitting a Mule Kick on Matthews.
– Dr. Britt Baker, DMD, and Jamie Hayter were shocked they are not in the Pay Per View before saying ThunderStorm was an accident waiting to happen. Baker said that she and Hayter will be watching closely.
Athena vs. Penelope Ford.
The two locked up before Ford hit a shoulder tackle, with Athena doing a kip-up. Athena hit an arm drag/ wrist lock on Ford, but Ford cornered Athena and hit her with a lariat. Athena hit a high knee on Ford. Ford hit a Cazadora Slam on Athena into the middle rope before hitting a shotgun dropkick. Ford hit a corkscrew on Athena into the apron. Back in the ring, Ford hit a knee strike on Athena before hitting a kick on Athena. Ford laid in her boot on Athena’s face before hitting a cartwheel back elbow on Athena and licking her face. Ford got Athena in a lateral press for a near fall. Athena hit an uppercut on Ford before rolling her up for a near fall. Athena hit a superkick on Ford, but Ford responded with a Stunner. outside of the ring, Athena hit a shotgun dropkick on Ford into the barricade. Back in the ring, Athena hit the O-Face for the pinfall win.
Winner: Athena.
– Leila Grey and Kiera Hogan attacked Athena from behind before TBS Champion Jade Cargill came to the ramp and hammered Athena’s entrance wings with a hammer. Jade hit Athena with a sledgehammer in the midsection, with Stokely Hathaway losing his mind with the sledgehammer.
– There was a video package highlighting the feud between AEW Champion CM Punk & AEW Interim Champion Jon Moxley ahead of their match on the 8/24/2022 edition of AEW Dynamite.
– Ricky Starks cut a promo backstage, saying that he had a whole lot to say on AEW Dynamite after the onslaught Powerhouse Hobbs had unleashed on him for the past weeks.
– Mark Henry interviewed Best Friends & Trustbusters, with Daivari saying that they were one step closer to winning the AEW Trios Titles, but Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta sai that those belts were made for Best Friends.
AEW Trios Tag Title Tournament Match.
Trustbusters (Slim J, Ari Daivari & Parker Boudreaux) (w/ Sonny Kiss) vs. Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta).
Daivari stomped down Taylor before Taylor hit Eat Defeat on Daiavri. Taylor and Berretta hit an assisted bomb on Slim J for a near fall. Taylor and Trent hit a knee strike/ dropkick combo on Daivari, but Parker laid out everyone to the outside of the ring. Parker hit a lariat on Trent outside of the ring. Back in the ring, Parker hit an Irish Whip/ lariat on Trent before hitting a standing splash. Slim J hit a snap-mare kick on Trent for a near fall. Slim J laid Trent in the rope before Sonny attacked Trent. Slim J got Trent with a punch in the groin for a near fall. Slim J hit three cross-face strikes, but Trent responded with a chop on Slim J. Daivari tagged in and hit a neck breaker on Trent for a near fall. Daivari hit three knee strikes on Trent’s back before locking in a side headlock on Trent. Trent broke the hold and tried to make the tag, but Slim J stoke down Taylor. Trent hit a half-and-half on Slim J before Cassidy tagged in and slammed Diavari’s face into the corner, hit a cross body on Slim J, and a DDT on Daivari. Cassidy called out Parker before Parker dropped him with a big boot. Parker hit a double lariat on Trent on Chuck before hitting corner splashes on them. Taylor and Trent hit lariats on Parker before Best Friends hit triple shotgun dropkicks on Parker. Slim J hit a twisting cutter on Cassidy, an enziguri kick on Trent, and a trust fall on Taylor and Trent to the outside. Slim J hit a corkscrew kick before Daivari hit a frog splash for a near fall. Parker carried trent, but Trent speared Parker into the barricade. Cassidy hit an Orange Punch on Parker, sending him over the barricade. Kiss dropped Cassidy off the top rope, with Slim J connecting a diving Reverse DDT for a near fall. Danhausen cured Parker, Slim J & Sonny Kiss. Trent and Taylor hit a double chokeslam on Slim J before Cassidy claimed on Trent and Taylor to hit a frog splash on Slim J for the pinfall win. Danhausen and Best Friends stood tall to end the broadcast.
Winners: Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta).
